Road Closures

Leitrim Council Roads Department process the Temporary Road Closures, this is required approx. 8 weeks before the event takes place. This is due to the advertising requirements for two publications in the local paper. There must be a Proposal advert, where the public are given the opportunity to object and approx. 2 weeks later, the Decision advertisement will published.

Important Things to Know
We translate almost all of our Temporary Road Closure Adverts into Gaeilge (as part of Official Languages Act 2021 - Section 10A) and publish these online.
ADVERTISING: Both advertisements will be published in the local paper, with the decision advert publication being at least 7 days before the event. 
> Local Paper: The advert will appear in English for both the proposal and decision adverts
> Social Media: When the advert appears in the local paper, it will also be posted on social media in English and Gaeilge
> Website: We will publish the advertisements on our website in English and Gaeilge
COST: A payment of 100% of advertising costs are payable to Leitrim County Council and there is an additional charge of 15% admin fees
PAPERWORK: An application form is required (see below), along with details and maps of roads to be closed and what alternative routes can be provided (or other options available for emergency services). We require proof of Public Liability Insurance and a copy of your Indemnity to Leitrim County Council
