Burial Ground application for permission to erect a Monument or Headstone
To apply for permission to erect a monument or headstone in a burial ground, you must complete and submit an application in line with the Grave-Space Development general requirements as detailed below.

Grave-Space Development – General Requirements
- Headstones shall not exceed 1.2 metres in height (measured from finished ground level).
- The excess material in the grave mound shall be removed prior to space development and deposited in the area designated for that purpose by the Local Authority.
- Top soil shall be removed over the entire plot area to a depth of 150mm and deposited in the area in 2 above.
- Kerb foundations shall be in 1:10 (cement: aggregate) concrete 150mm wider than the kerb width and not visible above ground level.
- Kerb surrounds to adjoining plots shall abutt without intervening gaps.
- The kerbed area shall be finished in a sand / cement mix 75mm thick and finished in white limestone chippings.
- Concrete shall not be mixed on site or on any part of public property.
- All excess material arising shall be removed from site on the completion of works.
- The Local Authority caretaker shall be advised of work commencement and completion.
