Decorative Paints Regulations
There are many different paints and varnishes available on the market today. These products contain volatile organic compounds (VOC). Legislation was introduced to limit emissions arising from the use of organic solvents in certain paints, varnishes and vehicle refinishing products, to reduce the risk to the user and the environment. Certificate of Compliance
Operators of vehicle refinishing installations must hold a current certificate of compliance.
- A copy of your certificate of compliance must be displayed in a prominent position at your premises.
- If an operator receives non-compliant materials, they must notify the EPA and take appropriate steps to minimise the risk to human health and the environment.
- Enforcement will consist of notifications and inspections of business premises where solvents are in use. the regulation provides for fines of up to €5,000 on conviction.
How to obtain your certificate of compliance.
- Register with your Local Authority
- Undergo an inspection by an approved assessor who has been appointed by the EPA
- Submit completed application form (link to application form - application-decorative-paint-regulations)
- Include fee to Leitrim County Council - The fee is €70 for new applications and €50 for renewals.
