Schools Competition 2024/2025

Leitrim County Council is now accepting Expressions of Interest for the Love Where You Live Primary Schools Competition.

The Love Where You Live Primary Schools Competition is an annual competition to recognise and celebrate the work of our schools, pupils and teachers. For the school year 2024/2025, Leitrim County Council invites Primary Schools throughout County Leitrim to enter a Climate Action themed project. This could be an existing project that you are already working on within the school or it could a new project.

There are monetary prizes of €500 for winning schools €250 for runner up schools in each Municipal District.

You are invited to submit the below expression of interest if you would like to nominate your school to take part in this competition. The deadline for submission of the Expression of Interest form is Wednesday 9th April 2025.

The Love Where You Live Schools Judge will visit all schools that enter the competition in May 2025 to engage with the pupils and give them an opportunity to present their project. Examples of projects include: Climate Awareness Campaigns, Going Plastic Free, Starting a swap shop or library of things, Biodiversity garden or planting for pollinators, Reduce your schools Carbon Footprint, etc.

Love Where You Live 2024

Leitrim’s Love Where You Live Awards, an initiative of Leitrim County Council and Leitrim Public Participation Network (PPN), were held on Thursday 10th October 2024 at Lough Rynn Castle. These awards celebrate and recognise the significant efforts and dedication of community groups and volunteers throughout the County. The awards have been running since 2018 and have grown in popularity year on year. With approximately 200 attendees, the event brought together nominated individuals and groups representing their communities. The awards serve as a platform to celebrate the positive impact of communities, schools, and individuals on the county.

Each winner was presented with a unique Leitrim made trophy, €500 cash prize and a certificate. All runners up received €250 cash prize and a certificate. Every entry received tickets to the event and a certificate of participation.

Winners of the Schools Awards were presented with their prizes at their schools by Leitrim County Council last June. Winning schools were Largy National School, Manorhamilton, St.Joseph’s National School, Aughavas and Hunt National School, Mohill. Runner up schools were St.Fatima National School, Cloone, and St.Joseph’s National School, Leitrim Village. Winning Schools were presented with a cash prize of €500, a certificate and specially commissioned trophy. Runners Up were presented with a cash prize of €250 and a certificate.

Leitrim County Council and Leitrim Public Participation Network would like to thank all of the entries to the Love Where You Live Awards 2024 and look forward to welcoming everyone back in 2025.
