Multi Annual Rural Water Programme 2024-2026

The New Multi Annual Rural Water Programme 2024-2026 has been launched by the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage. There are 9 individual funding measures available under MARWP 2024-2026 and each is directed by a specific activity e.g. source protection, water treatment, network improvement.

Under this new Framework no new Community Wastewater Connection projects (Sewerage Schemes) are being funded. There is a funding measure available for new Community Water Connections projects (Water Schemes) however there must be a minimum of 25 houses on the proposed Scheme. Also the funding under Measure A3 for amalgamation and/or Rationalisation of Group Water Schemes is only available to private Group Water Schemes. Leitrim County Council invited submissions for funding under this 3-year programme from existing group water schemes, group sewerage schemes or proposed group water schemes (Community Water Connections) with a minimum of 25 houses. All submissions received were considered by Leitrim County Council and 31 no. applications for schemes/projects were submitted to the Department for funding. In November 2024, the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage advised Leitrim County Council that a decision had been made on the funding for capital projects under the Multi Annual Rural Water Programme 2024-2026 for 5 out of the 8 measures. The Expert Panel are continuing its evaluation of the applications received under the other 3 remaining measures.

Leitrim County Council had applied for funding under 6 of these measures. Under the measures that funding has been approved to date, by the Department, Leitrim County Council were successful in securing funding for 13 projects with the total funding awarded to date for these projects of €1,073,152. We are currently awaiting a decision on 14 no. projects.
