About Rural Water
Leitrim County Council administers the Rural Water Programme (Multi Annual Rural Water Programme MARWP) in conjunction with the Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage which provides funding for the programme, All applications for new schemes, upgrading existing schemes, and for subsidies for maintenance and operating costs, are processed through the Rural Water Department of Leitrim County Council, and funded through allocations from the Department of Environment, Heritage & Local Government.
The primary challenge faced by all parties involved in rural water supplies in Ireland is to ensure that the quality of the water supplied to consumers complies with the EU Directive on Drinking Water Standards.
The Rural Water programme deals with Group Water Schemes, Group Sewerage Schemes, Subsidy Grants towards operational costs of Group Water Schemes and Individual Well Grants.
