Leitrim Horse-Riding Programme

The Leitrim Horse -Riding and Animal Welfare Programme is held in Moorlands Equestrian Centre each summer. Thirty-five children aged 10-17 participate in the 8-week programme. Children are from a diverse range of backgrounds including travelling community, disadvantaged and children with additional needs. Participating children are mainly referred from Tusla, LDC, Traveller Liaison Officer and NCYS.

Participants learned about many basic aspects of horse care and management including, Tacking up, Handling, Points of the Horse, Leading & Lunging, and Feeding.
By the end of the programme the participants were riding confidently and were able to walk, trot, canter and jump fences.
