Community Involvement Scheme (CIS) for Repair / Upgrade of Local Roads

Leitrim County Council invites Applications for the Community Involvement Scheme (CIS) for the Repair and/or Upgrade of Local Roads in the County. This Scheme is a joint venture between the Local Community and Leitrim County Council, whereby the Local Community make a Monetary Contribution towards the cost of the Road Works and Leitrim County Council complete the Road Works on the Road.

The Monetary Contribution required is 10% of the cost of the repair/upgrade of the Road. Each Local Community applying for this Scheme will be required to appoint a Spokesperson to act on their behalf. If your application is successful and your Road is included in this Scheme, payment of the full Local Contribution will be required in advance of any works commencing.
The CIS Scheme is for Public Roads which are in charge of Leitrim County Council and are mainly targeted at the Local Roads Network.

Eligible works include:

  • Providing hard stands at field entrances
  • Removal of grass verges or banks
  • Site preparation works including the removal of grass from the centre of the road (where required)
  • Opening, deepening, and generally maintaining drains alongside roadway and adjoining land including the laying of drainage pipes, where appropriate
  • Providing gully traps at suitable locations and piping to drains, where appropriate
  • Opening inlets
  • Opening backshores
  • Unblocking of shores/surface water drains
  • Repair of potholes
  • Surface dressing works
  • Road strengthening works
  • Repair of footpaths
  • Construction of new footpaths

Once your application is received you will be placed on a waiting list. Leitrim County Council will review all applications received for this scheme and will solely determine the priority to be accorded to applications. To determine which schemes will and which schemes will not be allocated funding under this scheme, the decision of Leitrim County Council on this matter is final. The Number of Community Involvement Schemes completed in County Leitrim is dependent on the funding received from the Department of Transport.
