Taxing your Vehicle

Online Applications

The majority of motor tax applications can be processed online by accessing the Department of Transport's website.

The PIN is the last 6 digits of the serial number on the front of the Vehicle Registration Certificate (VRC).

Customers who have not got access to the VRC, do not have their reminder or have lost their reminder can go online and use the Pin Retrieval Service.

Postal Applications

Applications can be submitted by post to:

Leitrim County Council Motor Tax Office,
Aras-an-Chontae,
Carrick-on-Shannon,
Co. Leitrim,
N41 PF67 

Please include a postal order, cheque, debit/credit card details for the payment to be processed.  

If the Motor Tax has expired and there are arrears due, then the arrears will have to be paid in addition to the fee for taxing the vehicle.  

Customers should not submit cash with their application.

In Person Applications

Applications can also be made by attending the motor tax office in person. Leitrim Motor Tax office is open for processing tax applications Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays) from 9.30am to 1pm. 

Customers who present to the Motor Tax office to complete three or more transactions will be asked to leave the necessary paperwork with Motor Tax staff for processing at a later stage, especially during busy periods.
