Join the Library

You may register by completing the Online Membership Form or by completing a membership form at your local library.
You will need to bring photo ID along with an acceptable proof of current permanent address*.
*Acceptable proof of permanent address includes driving licence, bank statement or utility bill.

As a registered member of the library, you may borrow books, use the internet and access a range of online resources.
To complete your registration, you will be asked to provide a four digit PIN of your choosing.

Becoming a member

Membership is free to all. You may join at any public library in the country by presenting proof of your name and current address. There is no minimum age for joining, but those under the age of 18 years of age must have their registration form signed by a parent or guardian.

Conditions of membership

To borrow items, you must present your library membership card.

You may borrow up to 12 items and you may keep them for up to 3 weeks.

These can be borrowed from and returned to any public library in the country.

Items may be renewed twice at any branch. Staff are happy to renew items over the telephone during opening hours. Please have your library card number on hand. If a reservation has been placed on an item you have on loan a renewal is not permitted.

You can reserve items that are not in stock. You can use the online catalogue to place your own reservations.

If you change your address or name please notify us immediately.

Please report lost cards to the library immediately. You will be held responsible for any items borrowed before the loss is reported.

Membership details are confidential and will not be disclosed to other parties.

You can join at any age but children and young people under the age of 18 must get the permission of a parent or guardian to join the library. Parents/guardians are responsible for their children in the library, and for their children’s selections and use of library materials and services, including access to the internet and online resources.

Using the Library

Your Library card allows you borrow from our collections and access the public computers.

Borrowing: Library members may borrow up to 12 items for a period of three weeks.

Renewals: Library items may be renewed if they are not requested by another borrower.
Items may be renewed at your library, or by telephone.

Removal of Fines

From the 1st of January 2019, library members no longer have to pay fines for overdue items and no existing fines will be collected.
There are no fines for the late return of material. Library members are advised that they may encounter difficulty borrowing items if there are items overdue for return on their account.

Please note:

  • Return your books on time
  • Renew your books, at your library, by telephone or online.

By providing your email address, you will receive an email alert you when your books are overdue.
