Voluntary Housing Support
Approved housing bodies (AHBs) are independent, not-for-profit organisations. They provide affordable rented housing for people who cannot afford to pay private sector rents or buy their own homes. Some AHBs provide housing specifically for particular groups of people, such as older people or homeless people. AHBs are also known as housing associations.
AHBs get government funding from local authorities to provide affordable rented housing. They use this funding to:
- Build new homes
- Buy existing homes
- Lease private homes
There are a number of existing Voluntary Housing Schemes operational in Leitrim. If you are currently on the Council’s Housing Waiting List, you will be considered for any vacancies that arise in the housing provided by the Approved Housing Bodies in a number of locations throughout the county.
If you accept an offer of a tenancy with an Approved Housing Body, your rent contribution will be assessed in accordance with the Council’s Differential Rents Scheme. The responsibility for the maintenance of the property rests with the AHB.
