Healthy Leitrim
Healthy Ireland is a government-led initiative aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of everyone living in Ireland.
It provides accurate information on how to improve your health and wellbeing, and to empower and motivate you to make healthy choices. There are many factors that influence our health and wellbeing. The health sector alone cannot address all these factors. This is what Healthy Ireland is about - we must collectively change our approach.
The Healthy Ireland Framework addresses the following: Physical Activity, Mental Health, Nutrition, Sexual Health, Alcohol & Tobacco, Spaces & Places for wellbeing, and Events.
The Healthy Ireland Strategic Action Plan 2021-2025 provides a roadmap towards good health, access to services, healthy environments and the promotion of resilience in a manner that leaves no one behind.
The Healthy Ireland Fund (HIF) is rolled out by POBAL to the local authorities.
At local level, Leitrim Co Council has a significant role in protecting and promoting our health and wellbeing and Leitrim LCDC (Leitrim Community Development Committee) is ideally placed to understand local needs and issues and is therefore a key partner.
The main Healthy Leitrim Initiatives for 2023-2025 are:
- Breastfeeding Friendly Leitrim
- Aging in Place
- Address Period Poverty
- Bike Programmes
- Playground initiatives
