SIRO, Ireland’s leading fibre broadband network operator, has today (Thursday, 14 November) announced that its high-speed fibre broadband service is now live in Carrick-on-Shannon. This expansion means SIRO’s full fibre broadband network is now available in every county across Ireland, marking an important milestone in its rollout of 100% fibre broadband.

To date, SIRO has passed 800 premises in Carrick-on-Shannon, connecting areas such as Cnoc Na Sí, Rockingham, Bóthar Fergus, Glas na hAbhainn, Dún Rí, Lána Meave, Bothair Tiernan, Lána Eithne, Bóthar Rogen, Caldragh Crescent, Ard Na Sí, Ath na Rí, Ros na h'Inse, Attyrory, Dún Rí, and Lis Cara.

A further 800 premises around the town and its’ estates are currently under construction, with a combined total of 1,600 homes and businesses available to order by April 2025. This expansion underscores SIRO’s commitment to Ireland’s digital transformation, as the company continues to deliver reliable, high-speed broadband to both urban and regional communities.

Carrick-on-Shannon joins other SIRO-enabled towns in the North-West region, including six County Donegal towns where its network reaches over 20,000 premises and Sligo town where it is available to over 8,000 premises. SIRO also has network in other local towns such as Cavan, Roscommon and Longford.

SIRO is a wholesale operator, meaning that residents and businesses in Carrick-on-Shannon can order SIRO’s broadband through one of its retail partners, including Virgin Media, Vodafone, Sky, Digiweb, Pure Telecom, Blacknight Solutions, and Fastcom, offering a variety of options and packages tailored to meet local needs.

The addition of Carrick-on-Shannon to SIRO’s network forms part of its €1 billion investment in a future-proof broadband infrastructure. Over 620,000 homes and businesses in 142 towns and cities across Ireland are already part of the SIRO network footprint, with SIRO on track to reach 700,000 premises by 2026.

Commenting on the milestone, John Keaney, SIRO Chief Executive Officer said:

“Bringing full fibre broadband to Carrick-on-Shannon marks a major milestone for SIRO as our network has now reached every county in Ireland. For Carrick on Shannon residents – homes and businesses – our network provides high speed, high quality reliable fibre broadband, built on the ESB’s existing network.
