Community Recognition Fund 2024 - Phase 1 Approved Projects

Five communities in Leitrim secure funding in excess of €1.066 million through the Community Recognition Fund.

In a funding announcement made today by the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, five projects in Leitrim - in Ballinamore, Carrick-on-Shannon, Manorhamilton, Carrigallen and Drumshanbo - received funding in excess of €1.066 million as part of a wider national funding announcement of €16.5 million to deliver 185 community projects across the country.

The major investment in Leitrim will support the development of sports facilities and community centres.

The successful projects in Leitrim are as follows:

  • Ballinamore Area Community Council, Upgrade of Ballinamore Sports Complex - €357,877
  • Carrick-on-Shannon Tennis Club, Clubhouse Construction Project - €208,600
  • Carrigallen GAA and Healthy Club, Attic Conversion and Disability Access - €210,910
  • Manorhamilton Bee Park Resource Centre Ltd, Upgrading of Bee Park Community Centre - €82,220
  • Drumshanbo Allen Gaels GAA Club - Installation of Astro Turf - €207,275

Speaking today, Minister Humphreys said: “This major investment, under the Community Recognition Fund, will support the upgrade of sports facilities, community centres, walking trails, parks, playgrounds and so much more. The projects are diverse in nature – demonstrating the fact that communities have different needs. All the projects being funded today are designed to bring communities together and make them more vibrant places to live, work and visit. This is about giving back and saying ‘thank you’ to communities for what they do week-in, week-out. I look forward to seeing the positive impact that this funding will have on the ground in communities all across Ireland".

Cathaoirleach of Leitrim County Council, Cllr Paddy O’Rourke welcomed the funding by saying: “I am delighted that Leitrim has received this tranche of funding today. This funding supports the great work being done by community organisations throughout the county. It will support and further develop existing facilities in Carrigallen, Ballinamore, Drumshanbo, Manorhamilton and Carrick-on-Shannon and provide facilities that will be a significant positive benefit to those who live within our communities”.

Ms Mary Quinn, Deputy Chief Executive of Leitrim County Council, also welcomed the funding by saying: “I warmly welcome the funding announced today by Minister Humphreys for County Leitrim. The funding announced today, recognises the vibrant, diverse and thriving communities that exist in Leitrim. This funding will have a significant impact in developing and enhancing facilities that will support the health and well-being of the entire community and will further recognise Leitrim’s reputation as an attractive place in which to live, work and visit.”
