Roles, Responsibilities & Functions of Leitrim County Council
Leitrim County Council’s Mission Statement is: ‘To make Leitrim a sustainable, creative, inclusive County where individuals, family and business can flourish’.
County Leitrim occupies an area of 1,876 sq. km (613 sq. miles) and has a population of 35,087 (2022 Census Preliminary). Leitrim County Council, as a key public service, has two major responsibilities – to provide good quality accessible services in an efficient and effective manner and to exercise our civic leadership role to promote the economic, social and cultural development of the County in a balanced and sustainable manner. Services include roads, traffic, planning, housing, economic and community development, environment, recreation and amenity services, fire services and maintaining the register of electors.
